The secret to a perfect wardrobe? Alterations

May 7, 2013 by renee Leave a Comment

I wrote this for a paper but unfortunately it never got published due to an editorial changeover. Still, it has interesting information so here it is:

—

Want to know a celebrity secret? The reason they all look so good is because they get everything altered so it fits them perfectly (or sometimes too tight). It’s not limited to black tie outfits, it includes jeans, t-shirts and even shorts. [Read more...]

Shoes and money spent on them

I like shoes. Yes, I’m a cliche. I can live with that. I find that generally the more money you spend on shoes, the more comfortable they are. Well, except for Louboutins. They’re not. I find them deeply, deeply uncomfortable.  [Read more...]

Beatrix Potter and the Gap

I’m that friend. You know the type – the one who gives books to children. When Natasha, my high school best friend, had her first child I gave her a copy of the Beatrix Potter stories (and I’m not the only person to do so). They’re classic, beautifully illustrated and who doesn’t appreciate a sneaky rabbit? [Read more...]

Why are brown bras so hard to find?

December 17, 2012 by renee 4 Comments

Seriously, why? It’s either feast or famine when it comes to finding brown bras. For some of us, brown is our nude and when our trusted nude bra dies, as they all do, it’s always a hunt to find a nice brown bra so we don’t have to worry about show-through.  [Read more...]

Wolford and Secret tights

I’m a Wolford fan. I buy a pair every few years and wear them until they’re fuzzy and starting to shred. They’re expensive, about $70 per pair but they are really worth it because their opaque tights are actually opaque, no hint of skin to be seen.  [Read more...]

Shopping in New Orleans

Everyone talks about the food and music scene in New Orleans. Both are true because god knows that Gail and I have been eating our way through the city. In fact, we’re sitting by the pool working, accompanied by margaritas right now.

The shopping is very good here. [Read more...]

Wish list: Bibhu Mohapatra’s Black and Beige & Beige Lace Tee

Bibhu Mohapatra: Black and Beige & Beige Lace Tee

I find it odd to pay a lot of money for an item that has the word, “Tee” in it because a t-shirt isn’t supposed to be expensive. Anyway, this, while called a tshirt, isn’t really.

It’s also $1,200 according to Moda Operandi. That hasn’t stopped me from mentally working it into my wardrobe (It would be perfect!) and doing justification-math. (Justification-math is different from regular math. Instead of 1+1=2, it works out as fancy item+credit card = debt.

Heel relief from Damn Heels.

It’s been a while since I updated. I’m sorry about that – I’ve been working on articles for new outlets and pitching like a fiend. (And by fiend I mean freelancer.)

I went to my only show yesterday – Lucian Matis – because his stuff is beautiful and he cuts for a woman with breasts and a bottom.  Also, I’m friends with his PR rep, Gail McInnes. Part of going to the shows is sometimes wearing ridiculous high heels. I say “sometimes” because sometimes I just don’t bother. When I do, I tend to wear my black Manolos. Comfortable enough for heels but tiring after a while.

Here’s where these come in: [Read more...]

Kara Ross, Kelly Claman and Customer Service

Kara Ross jewelry

That is a photo of my Kara Ross jewelry. Most of it was bought by me except for a couple pieces that were gifted. Why am I writing about them? Well, I recently bought a few pieces and a couple of them had a couple minor errors with them – nothing that couldn’t be fixed. I tweeted to Kelly Claman, the owner of the showroom that carries Ross, asking for recommendations for fixing. Instead, Kelly and Sabrina sent me replacements (not asked for) immediately. Which is amazingly fabulous and deeply generous of them.

That is good customer service.
